The opening of the Dublin Writers Museum in 1991 filled a gap in Dublin’s cultural landscape. Established by Dublin Tourism and transferred to Fáilte Ireland in 2012, the museum built a collection surveying the city’s rich literary history through a collection of over 1,100 items. The museum closed in 2020, and gifted its beloved collection to MoLI, ensuring visitors and residents can continue to enjoy and study its artefacts. It also transferred ownership of its Georgian building to Dublin City Council, and its beautiful building will continue to function as a heritage institution. The city of Dublin eagerly looks forward to the next chapter of 18 Parnell Square.
